TLC’s Dr. Pimple Popper is back with star dermatologist Dr. Sandra Lee for another explosive new season. The skincare professional promises there will be some amazing (and maybe even unsettling) pops.
Dr. Lee starting posting videos on social media and her YouTube channel, Dr. Pimple Popper, in she would extract cysts, blackheads, and even huge lipomas. When she noticed an uptick in likes and views of her content, she discovered the growing internet subculture of “popaholics;” and after garnering millions of views online, TLC came knocking. Dr. Pimple Popper first premiered in 2018 and has since become a hit, with millions tuning in to watch the California-based dermatologist tackle some of the most interesting skin cases. Now, in the 2nd season of her hit reality show, cameras follow her day-to-day life as she helps patients with a multitude of dermatological issues. This new season, the doctor guarantees bigger, better, and even nastier pops.
Dr. Lee said the current season, which premiered July 11 at 9PM EST on TLC, was going to the best ever with some “amazing pops.” One such pop was so serious that it actually involved her teaming up with a fellow doctor and performing the procedure at a local hospital. There will also be a life-threatening case and a “mystery” case this season, according to Dr. Lee, and Dr. Pimple Popper Season 2 definitely isn’t for the faint of heart. Along with the amazing pops, there will also be the backstories of the patients to help understand why the procedures are so important to them. There are touching stories of how the patients have suffered with the embarrassment of having these dermatological issues.
Aside from being shocking, Dr. Lee wants the show to be helpful and informational as well. She previously told Self that she thinks the series brings skincare and skin health “to the masses” and even encourages people to go in and see a doctor themselves about skin issues. In some cases, seeing a dermatologist can be difficult for a lot of people, and Dr. Lee wants to help educate them so that they can lead healthier and safer lives, while, of course, still appealing to her popaholic fanbase.
Judging by the season thus far, it seems like fans aren’t being let down. For anyone who has the stomach for the sort of visuals that “pop” up on screen, Dr. Pimple Popper is actually a deeply satisfying show - not only on account of all the popping, but for how appreciative Dr. Lee’s patients are after she’s treated them. With Season 2, popaholics should get ready to enjoy the biggest and most interesting pops yet.
