Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will be retelling the story of Goku’s journey in Dragon Ball Z, but it will be adding brand new characters that were created by Akira Toriyama specifically for the game, including a former member of the Ginyu Force. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is an upcoming action RPG that will tell a new version of the story of Dragon Ball Z.

The game was originally announced under the name Dragon Ball Game - Project Z, but the name was later changed to better reflect the storyline it was focusing on. The footage of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot that has been revealed so far has been impressive and it seems that the story will at least reach the Cell Games, though it’s possible that the Buu Saga might also be included as well. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will include new characters that were created by Akira Toriyama and the backstories of the established characters will be fleshed out in more detail.

The first new character to be introduced in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is a former member of the Ginyu Force named Bonyu. The official Bandai Namco Twitter page has uploaded the first image of Bonyu, where she appears to be a red-skinned alien with white hair. Bonyu’s name keeps up with the tradition of Toriyama’s theme naming, as all of the members of the Ginyu Force were named after dairy products and Bonyu’s name is the Japanese word for breast milk.

There is more information concerning Bonyu that has been revealed in Japan and has been translated over at Ryokutya2089, which has confirmed that Bonyu is a member of the same species as Jeice from the Ginyu Force. The reason why Bonyu left the Ginyu Force is that she didn’t like all of the silly poses that the team did. The other pieces of Dragon Ball media state that Guldo was the latest person to join the Ginyu Force before their destruction, so it’s likely that he took Bonyu’s place on the team.

Bonyu is not the only new character to be created by Toriyama for the Dragon Ball video games, as he also designed Android 21 for Dragon Ball FighterZ. Toriyama has been designing original characters for the video games since the days when the manga was still being created, but these have usually been one-off antagonists, such as Majin Ozotto from Dragon Ball Z: V.R.V.S. The fact that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is exploring the backgrounds of several different cast members from Dragon Ball Z means that a lot more original characters could be added to the game in the future.
