Dragon Quest of The Stars is Square Enix’s next mobile adventure in the Dragon Quest series has finally come to the west. Here are some tips and tricks for beginner players. Dragon Quest of The Stars has sat comfortably on mobile devices in different regions since last October. It recently has released in the United States, currently, with a total of over 20 million downloads worldwide, a number which is sure to rise within the next few weeks. This mobile title allows players to team up with friends and travel the galaxy to defeat monsters in turned based combat. Similar to the mainline entries of the series, all the Dragon Quest charm from the art style of series veteran, Akira Toriyama to the turn-based combat popularized by Square Enix makes a return here. Players can also customize their own characters and build their own adventure. This guide will help beginner players step into the universe of Dragon Quest of The Stars.

Beginning the game requires a massive download beforehand. Once the game begins, players will have the opportunity to create their own customizable character. Each character is in the iconic Akira Toriyama art style and players can select between different clothing, skin tones, hair color, hairstyle, and eye color. After creating the character, the tutorial begins. The player character will wake up on a beach surrounded by strangers. This is when Mogamaru, a pink rabbit comes along to help guide players to the next part of their adventure. While walking into the next town, battles will trigger, teaching the player the in-game mechanics. The player takes control of all the characters who were found on the beach. Arriving at the town, Mogamaru will request the player to meet him at his home and will provide the player with some gems that can be used to open up loot boxes. This is a common mechanic with any major phone game and how these developers generate money. This guide will teach beginner players tips and tricks of the game.

Story Missions in Dragon Quest Of The Stars

As with many online MMORPG’s, the best thing for players to do when they’re starting out is to complete story missions. Story missions are the perfect gateway in getting the player comfortable with the gameplay mechanics and further introducing them into the game world. Selecting the Quest icon on the menu bar will give the Quest List. Here players can select quests to go on. Here, players can earn levels and money from completing missions. As the game has just released, Square Enix is providing EXP bonuses on the Story Quests for first-time players. The stronger the player becomes, the more opens up in the game.

Changing Jobs in Dragons Quest Of The Stars

When the player levels up a bit and reaches a certain point into the story, they will unlock Alltrades Abbey. At Alltrades Abbey, the player can change the jobs of the characters on their team. These jobs are called vocations and add another layer of gameplay. The vocation the player starts with can be changed and maxed out to Level 99. To change vocations, on the home screen, tap into attributes then click Change Vocation. More will unlock as the player progresses through the game and unlocks more characters.

Playing With Friends in Dragon Quest of The Stars

Arguably, the most fun part of playing MMORPG’s is the ability to play with friends. Also unlocked after getting to Alltrades Abbey, the player can now play online with friends. There are bonuses for playing with friends. For starters, during the first playthrough with friends, the game rewards the player with a First Meeting Bonus that gives the player gems that they can use to claim loot boxes. After a month of playing with friends, the player’s luck is boosted, allowing the players involved to get more treasure chest than before.

Dragon Quest Of The Stars Is A Gacha Game

If this is the first time experiencing a big scale mobile game due to the appeal of Dragon Quest, it’s important to know that this game is a Gacha Game. If this term is new to players, Gacha Games are essentially slot machines inside of a player’s phone. Much of the higher loot and rewards come in by absolute chance. During their playtime, players will receive gems for their hard work. These gems can be used on special chests. Inside the chest can contain a variety of different items with different rarities in each. Sometimes, the best items in the game can be held within this chest. There’s no sure-fire way to get a specific item. It’s basically the equivalent of placing money into a slot machine and seeing what happens. In-game gems are the currency for Dragon Quest of The Stars but players can use real-life money to purchase gems for more opportunities to roll. So while this is a free-to-play game, there are microtransactions in the form of loot boxes. The decision to use real-life money is entirely up to the player. It’s recommended to use real-life money is the player sees themselves putting plenty of time into the game. Also, the game has daily login bonuses to collect. At the start of each day, log in to the game to collect these. It doesn’t take much effort and could be the only thing the player does, especially when they don’t have time to play. There’s also a daily quest that rewards the player with upgrade orbs that can be used to upgrade certain skills.

Dragon Quest Of The Stars is another mobile title spin-off of a popular franchise that uses Gacha mechanics to benefit off of. While some games can use these tactics to come off as predatory to their players, most allow players to play normally without spending a dime. It’s too early to determine what kind of game Dragon Quest of The Stars will be. New players will be rewarded a free draw of a 10 Lucky Chest, a special quest to celebrate the launch of the game, and more. If the player desires another Dragon Quest experience on the go, they can also check out Dragon Quest XI on the Nintendo Switch. Exploring the universe of Dragon Quest of The Stars with friends is where the true experience lies.
