Actor, businessman and world-famous rapper Aubrey “Drake” Graham is joining the live streaming platform Caffeine. Drake is just one celebrity who has started a channel on Caffeine, and others include Offset, Juju Smith-Schuster, Doja Cat, and Broooklyn Nine-Nine’s Terry Crews, who has been vocal in the past about his preference for the platform over Twitch.

The live streaming business was long-dominated by Twitch, but things have started to change in light of recent controversies regarding the company. The first major domino to fall in the descent of Twitch occurred in August 2019, when Ninja left to join Microsoft’s Mixer. After Ninja quit using the platform, several other prominent streamers followed suit, including Shroud, ZeR0, DisguisedToast, Courage. and many, many more. To be fair, the problems with Twitch, such as sexual content bias and an inability to appropriately enforce community guidelines, have long existed, but now it seems like the shortcomings of the platform are sinking the company.

The announcement that Drake is joining Caffeine come by way of an official press release from the company, which states that he is signing on in an exclusive, multiyear partnership. Caffeine also says:

Drake will also collaborate with the Ultimate Rap League on Caffeine, by c0-producing a new rap battle for the channel. It’s unknown exactly what type of content Drake plans on streaming on Caffeine other than rap, although it is worth mentioning that he appeared on gaming livestreams in the past. In 2018, Drake appeared on Ninja’s Fortnite livestream alongside fellow rapper Travis Scott and NFL wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster. The stream was so successful that Ninja responded to its popularity by saying that, “Drake made gaming cool.”

“He will have his own channel on Caffeine where he will stream live from at any point in time, surprising his fans from all over the world. Drake can use his channel to make announcements, highlight up and coming artists he cares about, tease new music he is working on, anything he chooses to share directly with his fans - all happening live.”
