There haven’t been many shows on Nickelodeon that produced more laughs than Drake and Josh, the comedy based on two brothers growing up together in San Diego as they got into countless predicaments and always found a way to help each other out. They might not have been the best brothers, but they could qualify for the funniest.

While the two titular characters may have made priceless jokes throughout the four-season series, they weren’t the only members of the show who could get the audience to bust their guts. With that in mind, let’s take a look at our list of the top 10 non-titular characters from Drake and Josh.

Craig

Craig wasn’t exactly the most memorable recurring character from the show, but his presence as the more-nerdy member of the second most famous duo on the show is what gets him the onto our list.

Craig and Eric were Josh’s best friends throughout the series and truly made Josh look like a stud in comparison. For that reason, Craig was never really used as anything more than a sponge to soak up some of the nerdy insults that might have ordinarily been directed at Josh had he or Eric not been around.

Audrey

Another character who wasn’t the most memorable was Drake and Josh’s mother, Audrey. To be fair, Audrey was pretty funny whenever she was on the screen, but the fact that the boys were constantly in the middle of some sort of hi-jink or scheme often resulted in her character appearing more gullible than your average parent (this was a sitcom on a children’s network, after all).

Because of that reason, Audrey’s character was hard to pin down as she was clearly the more mature and disciplinary parent, yet she was often fooled by her two idiot sons simply for the sake of moving the plot forward.

Eric

The second half of the show’s nerdiest duo gets a ranking that doesn’t fare much better than his counterpart. Again, there wasn’t anything particularly wrong with Craig or Eric, but their characters were only brought in to be a catalyst for the insults that Josh would have received otherwise.

Every sitcom needs secondary characters that will offer comedic relief for the main characters, but when those secondary characters don’t grow at all and continue to be the same old punching-bags that they have been for the entire series, it tends to get old quickly.

Gavin

Gavin might have the least amount of screen-time of anyone on this list, but he was still one of the funniest recurring characters on the show. The Premiere theater was home to many of the show’s best scenes and characters, but Gavin was easily a fan favorite. The monotone employee would turn up to inform Josh of a gross task that Helen wanted him to get done.

He’d make an excuse as to why he couldn’t complete the task himself, leave for a moment, then return with some sort of prop that indicated he took care of the task anyway.

Mrs. Hayfer

Hey, Drake - guess what? I hate you. Mrs. Hayfer wasn’t the most pleasant character to pass through Drake and Josh’s lives, but there’s no arguing that she was one of the most hilarious as she did her absolute best to make Drake’s life miserable.

To be fair, Drake constantly made Mrs. Hayfer’s life miserable, as well, but he wasn’t doing it on purpose - he was just a terrible student. That being said, Mrs. Hayfer gave audiences numerous comedic moments that made every fan sympathetic to Drake when he just couldn’t get ahead with his teacher (be honest, we’ve all had a teacher like Mrs. Hayfer).

Mindy

Mindy Crenshaw was a surprise recurring character on Drake and Josh since she was only around for one episode in the first season (when she tried to get Drake suspended by putting Mrs. Hayfer’s car in her classroom and framing him for it).

After that, she returned as Josh’s science-fair nemesis turned girlfriend and ended up having one of the most complete character arcs in the series. She and Josh broke up when she revealed that she loved him and the couple got back together in the finale when Josh realized that he loved her too. There was a condition - she had to be the girlfriend.

Walter

While the maternal parent of the titular characters might not have had the most lasting impression on fans, Walter had the complete opposite effect as his goofy, oafishness led to plenty of jokes throughout the series. Craig and Eric were seen as nerds, but Walter had a very distinct, and hilarious, personality as he was just seen as somebody who couldn’t get ahead simply because he was too busy tripping over his own feet.

He had a job as a weatherman and obviously made enough money to give Drake and Josh an insanely nice house and the greatest bedroom in the history of bedrooms, but even that couldn’t stop his wife and kids from making fun of him.

Helen

As we stated, The Premiere theater was a constant source of hilarity for the children’s sitcom as Drake and Josh spent countless hours working or hanging out at the movie complex and engaged with characters like Helen, the theater manager.

Helen might have played the role of Josh’s boss, but she made it clear from the very beginning that she preferred Drake and couldn’t have cared less what Josh did or didn’t do. It became one of the longest-running jokes of the series and never ceased to make the audience keel over laughing.

Crazy Steve

This was a toss-up since Crazy Steve could have just as easily taken the top spot on our list, but we felt there was one character that deserved it just a tad bit more. That said, Crazy Steve deserves all the love of a champion since there wasn’t a single scene (or line) he had throughout the series that wasn’t hysterical.

The crazy character was so unique in the sense that nobody in their right mind would hire a man named Crazy Steve to work in a movie theater, yet he made it until the finale simply because fans couldn’t stop laughing at him. Honestly, a Crazy Steve spin-off wouldn’t have been the worse thing in the world.

Megan

Megan. The simple line that every 90’s and early 2000’s child will remember for the rest of their lives. The titular character’s little sister was a massive thorn-in-the-side to her older brothers as she made it her mission to destroy their happiness.

Her miniature stature mixed with her impressive acting skills made it seem like she was just another innocent little girl that everybody else loved and adored. Only her brothers (or rather, her targets) knew exactly what kind of demon she truly was. We’ll say it again - Megan.
