Dropbox Upgrading Paid Storage Tiers At No Extra Cost 3Tb Plan Now Offered

Dropbox is making its cloud storage plans for paid customers more competitive today with major space upgrades. Dropbox now offers up to 3TB of cloud storage with existing plans being upgraded at no additional charge.

Apple’s iCloud storage tiers currently range from the free 5GB plan to the competitive $9.99/month 2TB plan, but Apple hasn’t offered a way for customers to pay for more than 2TB yet.

For individual users, Dropbox is offering its own 2TB plan for the first time — although the pricing doesn’t match iCloud. Dropbox Professional is doubling its storage cap from 1TB to 2TB and keeping its current $16.58/month rate; Dropbox Plus stays at 1TB for $8.25/month.

For teams, Dropbox Business Standard is jumping from 2TB to 3TB for the first time with the same $12.50 per user/month rate. Dropbox also offers teams an unlimited storage plan called Business Advanced that costs $20 per user/month, but it’s possible some teams could squeeze into the cheaper plan thanks to the additional terabyte at a lower rate now.

Dropbox says new customers will automatically have access to increased storage tiers when signing up for a paid plan. Existing customers will also be opted in to the increase storage tiers at the same monthly rate, but Dropbox says to expect the change to take up to a few weeks:

As for iCloud, Apple made no announcements about storage tier or price changes at WWDC, but it could always change its plans at any time — like in the fall when new major new software updates are released.
