Generally speaking, chaos is the preferred choice for PvE content, as most enemies get stunned temporarily when hit with fire damage, whereas fire protection is very common on player-wielded armor. Plus, it’s aesthetically perfect for a pyromancer playthrough, for those of you fashion-inclined! But which weapon should you choose for your dual-stat scaling goodness? I’ll be listing off our top choices right here.
5. Warden Twinblades
The only faster weapon to make the list, the multi-hit nature of the wardens cannot be overlooked. Especially when paired with the free DPS in the form of bleed damage. Unlike other schools of magic, pyromancy tends to be pretty close range, so spammy and stunlock-heavy weapons are a perfect fit. And with B/B scaling the damage is fantastic – melting your foes while they’re being staggered to death! The only downside to these beauties is the need to switch from two-handed to one-handed, so you can use your pyro flame. How to get: Dropped by grave wardens outside of the cathedral of the deep and in the untended graves.
4. Zweihander
‘Wat rings u got bithc?’ Let’s be honest, I can’t make a list about chaos weapons without including the giant dad specialty – the chaos zweihander. Which unforgivably had its dex requirement increased in DS3. Disgusting. I was all ready to include this for the memes and put it at position 5, but upon investigation it actually has A/A scaling when chaos infused, which is… really good. And when paired with its huge damage swings and stunlock? I can see why the giant dad himself chose it. How to get: Sold by Greirat after he scavenges the undead settlement.
3. Astora Greatsword
Similar to the Zweihander, the Astora greatsword is a long-range stunlock-powered ultra greatsword that also hits A/A when infused! But it trumps out the Zweihander because of its weight – at only 8 units, it’s lighter than most greatswords, much less ultra ones. It might not have the meme factor, but it’s got the range, the damage, the scalings, and the stunlock, so maybe try it out on your hybrids. How to get: Looted from a corpse in the graveyard near the cleansing chapel bonfire.
2. Murakumo
The Murakumo has been featured on quite a few of our elemental-infusions lists, because it’s just that good. And it’s no different for chaos – reaching A/A scaling and dealing huge damage. All while being the longest curved greatsword in the game and boasting huge amounts of stun and a multi-hit weapon skill. It’s truly hard to go wrong here, and curved greatswords are a blast to use. How to get: Dropped by the invading Alva outside of Irithyll dungeon.
1. Carthus Curved Greatsword
And on the subject of curved greatswords, the Carthus is an absolute powerhouse. It seems to have it all – A/A scaling, high stun, a multi-hit skill, and even innate bleed! Sure, it may be slightly lower range than the Murakumo, but for the free DPS bleed provides, it’s essentially a direct upgrade. What’s more, it’s the lightest curved greatsword! Which is especially important as dual-stat hybrids will tend to have less stats to invest into vitality. Don’t overlook it – it’s a monster, and one of the best weapons for your pyros. How to get: Dropped by the grave warden skeletons in the catacombs of Carthus.
