Disney unveiled the DuckTales season 2 trailer and poster at San Diego Comic-Con, confirming the September 2019 premiere. A reboot of the 1987 animated series, DuckTales chronicles the adventures of trillionaire Scrooge McDuck after being reunited with his nephew, Donald Duck. Tasked with babysitting mischievous triplets Huey, Dewey, and Louie, Scrooge and the ducklings embark on treasure-hunting expeditions.
Developed by Matt Youngberg and Frank Angones, DuckTales serves as an updated version of the beloved original cartoon. Youngberg and Angones grew up watching the original series and became keen on revamping the cartoon for a new generation. While embarking on a vast array of hilarious adventures, the triplets, along with their friend Webby, attempt to uncover the truth about their uncle’s strained relationship and disappearance of their mother (and Donald’s twin sister) Della Duck. The debut season released in August 2017 and consisted of 21 episodes plus an additional 44-minute special to top off its successful return. Now, Huey, Dewey, and Louie are quacking into further mayhem and adventures in DuckTales season 2.
During the Disney Channel panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Disney offered a look at the upcoming DuckTales season 2. With surprise guest Lin-Manual Miranda in tote, the panel teased the arrivals of numerous beloved icons from the ’90s Disney Afternoon line-up, including Daisy Duck, Goofy, characters from Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Kit and Molly from TaleSpin, and much more. Check out the trailer and poster below to sneak a glance at the upcoming characters and what’s in store for season 2!
Adventure antics appear to be a novelty of the past for the gang. Intrigued by the mysterious McDuck Manor, the triplets and Webby unravel long-kept secrets of Scrooge’s past. Jam-packed with A-list talent lending their voices - from Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Gizmoduck to Jamie Camil’s Don Karnage - the cast list includes Julie Bowen (Penumbra), Lance Reddick (Lunaris), Danny Pudi (Huey), Ben Schwartz (Dewey), Bobby Moynihan (Louie), and David Tennant as Scrooge McDuck. The sky’s the limit for the high-flying adventures of Scrooge McDuck and his grandnephews in season 2.
Adding an extra dimension to the family dynamic of the show, Daisy Duck’s appearance is the most intriguing, as she was never part of the original series; and there’s no doubt that the expanding ensemble will enhance the escapades of Huey, Dewey, and Louie. Intended as a reboot, DuckTales has since graduated into its own original adventure. Thankfully, Disney has granted fans an epic trailer and poster to marvel over until the release of DuckTales season 2 in September.
