Ever since breaking onto the WWE scene back in 1995, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson quickly established himself as a fan favorite - as The People’s Champ, he continued to rise to the very top within the wrestling world before Hollywood came knocking. Yet it wasn’t until 2001’s The Mummy Returns where Johnson got his first big break on-screen, but even then it was a minor role. A year later would see him reprise the role for spinoff action-adventure The Scorpion King, thus kick-starting his movie career, but not with the immediate glory he’d hoped.

Over the next few years, roles in action flicks The Rundown and Walking Tall semi-established the on-and-off wrestler in the film world, but it wasn’t until he began nabbing roles in Get Smart, Disney’s Race to Witch Mountain, and subsequently The Other Guys which put his acting skills (notably his action hero and comedic potential) on everyone’s radar.

Now, in 2016, Johnson’s made it. He’s arguably the biggest action star on the planet, having been named the biggest grossing actor of 2013 by Forbes; he’s about to start his fourth Fast & Furious movie; and with projects such as Warner Bros. Pictures and DC’s Shazam! as well as Disney Animation’s Moana in the near future, life for the muscle-bound actor couldn’t be better.

With his latest, a comedy/crime caper alongside Kevin Hart and Aaron Paul by the name of Central Intelligence, Johnson’s built up a solid relationship with his director Rawson Marshall Thurber. Deadline is reporting that Thurber has already begun writing the next big action movie that Hollywood execs will be fighting over. What’s more, Johnson’s the actor attached to star in the movie, which is being dubbed as Die Hard set in China, serving as another opportunity for The Rock to affirm himself as the most sought-after action star in the world. Already Universal and Legendary have made seven-figure offers for the rights to it, as Sony and Paramount are also reported to have done.

There’s no denying that, regardless of a shaky, unsure start to his movie career, Johnson’s made his way to the top, and a lot of his success is credited to his own personal drive and determination. Anyone who follows The Rock on social media will be aware of just how grateful he is to all of his fans, as well as for the amazing opportunities he gets in return in Hollywood.

And just in case there was any doubt, his role in the next Fast and Furious as the towering Hobbs is set to be bigger and more intense than ever before, with Johnson’s producer Hiram Garcia even discussing the idea of a spinoff for his character, Agent Hobbs. That would be the perfect platform for Dwayne Johnson to take over the action movie world, once and for all.

Central Intelligence is in theaters on June 17th, 2016; Fast 8 opens in U.S. theaters on April 17th, 2017, followed by Fast and Furious 9 on April 19th, 2019, and Fast and Furious 10 on April 2nd, 2021.
