Bad news for fans of actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson: he doesn’t actually have plans to run for president in 2020. For those who really wanted to see The Rock sitting in the Oval Office, the chances of him trying to achieve that are now next to zero.
There has been a lot of discussion about the former pro wrestler now actor running for President in 2020. Considering the current state of politics that has a reality star now living in the White House, such conversation isn’t exactly all that far-fetched. Actor Ronald Reagan managed to spend eight years as president, and bodybuilder and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger is governor of California. Clint Eastwood did time as Mayor of Carmel, California. However, though Johnson may be considering running in 2024, he’s definitely ruled out a 2020 election campaign.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Johnson admitted that he doesn’t have plans to run for president in 2020, citing his respect for the position as the main reason:
Last year, though, Johnson admitted to entertaining the idea. He doesn’t have any political experience, but that doesn’t seem to stop many who seek life in public service. However, it seems that his lack of experience is the very reason he has finally admitted he has no interest in becoming POTUS, at least in 2020. However, it seems he might still consider it later on after he has had time to learn more about politics.
“Unfortunately I don’t see it happening in 2020. It’s a position that requires years of hard work and experience to learn the skills. There’s a lot of ground to cover, and due to my schedule, it’s not possible in 2020. I have so much respect for the position. It’s something that I seriously considered. What I need is time to go out and learn.”
There is another probable reason, too, behind Johnson declining to run for president in 2020. His acting career is hotter than ever and it keeps him pretty busy. He’s currently starring in Skyscraper and the upcoming Fighting With My Family. He is now filming the Jungle Cruise movie. He has many other movies in pre-production, including Jumanji 3, Black Adam, Red Notice, San Andreas 2 and the Big Trouble in Little China remake. His acting career doesn’t show signs of slowing down. That means he has little free time to run for political office or to take on such a job without giving up acting.
Johnson recently confirmed that Jumanji 3 will open in December 2019, putting it in direct competition with Star Wars: Episode 9. That, along with his other projects, will keep him on a busy promotional schedule, too. That certainly doesn’t leave time to make plans to run an entire country. Although some fans might find themselves disappointed that Johnson won’t run for president in 2020, they will still get plenty of the actor on the silver screen for years to come.
