Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be receiving the Generation Award at the 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards. Johnson is currently busy working on his HBO comedy Ballers, but the hard-working actor also has a handful of films premiering later this year, including Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, Jumanji 3 and the 2020 film Jungle Cruise. Johnson is undeniably one of the hardest working people in Hollywood, as he also hosts the NBC sports series The Titan Games, and is busy working as an executive producer on numerous other projects.

Most fans know that Johnson rose to stardom as a pro wrestler for the WWE, but some might not know that he is a third-generation wrestler, having followed in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps. Fans might also not know that his first dream was to play football in the NFL, though he unfortunately did not accomplish that goal. He did, however, attend Miami University, graduating with a Criminology degree in 1995. Johnson has never been one to stick to one passion, and has dipped his toes into a number of different professions, making his mark in the wrestling world, winning multiple prestigious awards and championships, and then later making his acting debut in the 2001 film The Mummy Returns. Since then, he has appeared in over 40 films and 12 television shows.

Deadline reports that MTV will be awarding Johnson with the Generation Award during the 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards. The Generation Award is awarded to influential actors who have become household names in the film  and television industry. Previous recipients of the award include Johnny Depp, Adam Sandler, Robert Downey Jr., Sandra Bullock, Tom Cruise, and many more. Amy Doyle, general manager at MTV, VH1, CMT, and Logo, announced that “Johnson is an icon on both film and TV who has become one of the most beloved actors of our generation.” His drive and consistency throughout the years has undeniably earned him his place in the industry, making him a worthy recipient of the award. Speaking on the reasoning for the choice, Doyle added:

UPDATE: Watch Johnson’s acceptance speech below:

“Throughout his career, Johnson has proven to be the ultimate badass - an action star with a flair for comedy, one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, and a true family man. He continues to captivate his audience worldwide and we are thrilled to celebrate him with the Generation Award.”

Doyle makes an excellent point that not only is Johnson a pro wrestler and award-winning actor, among other things, he is also a family man. He has been in a long-term relationship with partner Lauren Hashian, with whom he has two daughters, and he has another daughter with ex-wife Dany Garcia. Johnson is also loved by the public, having won over a huge fan base with his charismatic charm. It’s unlikely that anyone will contest MTV’s decision this year.

Fans can watch as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson receives his Generation Award at this year’s MTV Movie & TV Awards, which will be hosted by Shazam! star Zachary Levi. Incidentally, not only has Johnson hosted the show in 2016 with Kevin Hart, he’s expected to appear opposite Levi in a future Shazam! sequel. Whether or not Black Adam gets a nod at the ceremony, however, remains to be seen.
