Jumanji will be yet another hotly anticipated starring vehicle for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who has worked his way to becoming Hollywood’s highest-paid actor. The upcoming continuation of the original 1981 children’s book and 1995 movie starring the late Robin Williams will transform the board game into a video game, which transports its players into the world of characters that are the opposite of what they’re used to in real life. They’ll be forced to do battle in a fictional jungle, rather than face an invasion of the game into the real world.
With Johnson now in the leading role, the action in the Jumanji reboot is sure to feature more combat from the musclebound star, as much of the movie takes place in dangerous jungles rather than unsuspecting small towns. If the photos shared by Johnson himself are any indication, he is going to leave a lot of bad guys in a world of hurt.
Johnson shared three photos from the Jumanji set on his Instagram page recently. The shots give an idea of the damage he will do as game character Dr. Smolder Bravestone when his real-life counterpart Spencer (Alex Wolff) becomes him as part of the Jumanji journey. In the photos, Johnson tosses a massive stunt fighter into a pillar, looks for a way to break another man’s leg, and engages in hand-to-hand combat with a hulking mercenary.

In one of the photos, Johnson implies that most of the movie’s dramatic scenes have already been shot and that Saturday was one of the first times he’s done some straight-up brawling:
The movie is again described as a “continuation” of the Jumanji adventure by Johnson in one of his fight scene photos. The juxtaposition of the two versions of the Jumanji game make the new movie something of a companion piece to the original. It will still need to have the aforementioned “heart” and “comedy” to make its action and special effects more meaningful, but it’s on the right track with the character development of the game’s players. And with Johnson doing most of the fighting, Jumanji’s action set pieces are in good hands.
“For months we’ve shot everything.. all the comedy, all the jungle action and all the heart. … Finally, tonight - Saturday night - all night - I get to knuckle up with my stunt brothers and I get to beat some ass like a drum.”
