Former judge of America’s Got Talent, Gabrielle Union’s husband, Dwyane Wade called out trolls for mocking his 12-year-old son for wearing fake nails and crop top. The family photo showcasing Zion Wade’s expressive personal style was posted in celebration of the Thanksgiving holiday.
Back in June 2019, the family attended Miami Beach Pride with Zion. The then 11-year-old recently came out and wanted to express himself around like-minded people. Trolls were critical of the family then, forcing Wade to defend his parenting choices. In the last weeks, controversy has continued to follow the family when matriarch Union was allegedly fired from her job at America’s Got Talent for being outspoken about issues behind the scenes. Through it all, Wade has endeavored to be the pillar of strength for the family.
Actress Gabrielle Union, who is the wife of pro baller Dwyane Wade, posted a loving message expressing thanks for all the blessings her family has received. The photo shows the family posed on a winding staircase, with Union cuddled against Zion, and the teen leaning on Wade as he holds on to daughter Kaavia. Despite the happiness depicted in the picture, trolls quickly criticized young Zion’s outfit, taking the family to task for allowing him to express himself so freely. A few trolls complained that he was too young to wear fake nails and a belly shirt. Others just seemed to take issue with Zion, saying that Wade and Union failed him as parents. According to the Daily Mail, Wade didn’t hesitate to respond to the haters via social media, saying, “I’ve seen some post-thanksgiving hate on social about my family photo.” He then called out the haters, saying, “Stupidity is apart of this world we live in—so i get it.” He concluded the Tweet with, “But here’s the thing - I’ve been chosen to lead my family not y’all. So we will continue to be us and support each other with pride, love & a smile!”
It should go without saying that a family would support each and everyone one of its members. Therefore, random strangers insulting a 12-year-old child over wearing fake fingernails and a belly shirt is not their place. The Wades have embraced Zion’s lifestyle. Case closed. The child is stylish, fierce, and looks like he’s really starting to embrace who he wants to be in this world. It’s been a difficult last few weeks for this family, from Gabrielle’s sudden firing from America’s Got Talent and internet hate about their son, but still the family is defending each other and staying strong.
